Gone - Jude Hardin - The Jack reacher Experiment Book 9

Wow! I was absolutely not expecting this ending to this series! I really enjoyed this book and series and now I will be on to the other two Reacher Series Jude has penned. A few years ago I read my first Reacher novel. I had picked up one for my dad, and after giving the back a read, I grabbed the eBook for myself. In under a year I had read all the Reacher Novels in print and all the books in the Hunt for Jack Reacher by Diane Capri. Since then I have read 58 books in the Reacher universe and am expanding out to the three series by Jude Hardin now.

The description of this book and same as some of the others is:

“15 October 2101

When Rock Wahlman wakes up and leaves the house that morning, he can’t possibly imagine the kinds of problems he’s going to be dealing with by that afternoon.

Problems that are beyond belief.

Problems that nobody in the history of the universe has ever encountered before.

A client accused of murder?

All in a day’s work.

Belligerent drunks in parking lots?

No big deal.

But the challenges that Wahlman will ultimately face on this day in history, and the decisions that he will ultimately have to make, are of the mind-blowing variety.

The kind that will change his life forever.

The kind that will make him wish he’d stayed in bed.”

This story is listed as 115 pages, not the shortest in the series and not the longest; a little longer than the average. It felt much shorter though. Based on the page count this volume is more of a novella, the book in this series are available as 9 stand-alone stories or in 3 omnibus editions with 3 volumes each and now even all 9 stories in 1 eBook or print edition. I have now read and reviewed all the stand-alone editions because that is how I started the series. Back to the book at hand. I read this over a few mugs of coffee on a quiet afternoon at home alone, which is a rarity. It was finished far too soon, and really leaves you desperate for the first book in The Reacher Code Series a trilogy that continues directly from this story. But I am getting ahead of myself.

Wahlman is working a case and gets sent on a wild goose chase, but it leads to something he could never have imagined. He is surprised and readers will be even more so. I really could just not put this down.

Much like his generic source material, trouble just seems to find Wahlman. This time it is a surprise and he is drawn into something he never could have imagined. Can he make it through this one or will he end up like a bug on the windshield? To find out what happens read this great story.

This is a great excellent novella. That stays true to the original character and universe. It is a great read in a fun series. Even if this volume had not been set in the Reacher Universe I would have enjoyed it. The fact that it is only adds to the mystique that is Jack Reacher. It was good read and leaves you desperate for the next instalment in this series. This is a book and series I can easily recommend to fans of Reacher or anyone who love a good action thriller.

I want to state I did enjoy this book and look forward to the last in the series and the other two Reacher Series Jude has penned. Second a few years ago I read my first Reacher novel.

“Rock Wahlman...

United States Navy Master at Arms, E-8, retired. Three and a half years have passed since he discovered that he is the product of a human cloning experiment, an exact genetic duplicate of a former Army officer named Jack Reacher.

Once a fugitive from justice—and a target for multiple hired assassins—Wahlman has settled into a new career as a private investigator. He has a wife named Kasey to come home to at night, a stepdaughter named Natalie starting college, and a cat named Alice who's a little too clever for her own good.

In short, Rock Wahlman is a happy man.

But when a celebrity lookalike shows up at his office with a stalking complaint, things start going wrong in a hurry.

Because Wahlman ends up passing on the case...

And the young lady ends up dead...

And the movie star—the one she bore a striking resemblance to—just happens to be in town for a horse race.”

This story is listed as 95 pages, not the shortest in the series and not the longest; but around the average. It felt shorter though. Based on the page count this volume is more of a novella, the book in this series are available as 9 stand-alone stories or in 3 omnibus editions with 3 volumes each and now even all 9 stories in 1 eBook or print edition. I will continue to read and review the stand-alone editions because that is how I started the series. Back to the book at hand. I read this over a few mugs of coffee on a quiet evening at home alone, which is a rarity. It was finished far too soon, and really leaves you desperate for the last in the series.

As the penultimate volume it feels like a bit of whiplash. We go from Wahlman on the run and needing assistance to he is married, they are settled and he is working as a PI. I will be honest at the beginning I thought maybe it was a dream sequence. But that was not the case.

Even death can’t keep Reacher down, in a manner of speaking. Rock Wahlman is a clone of Reacher, but he was not the only one. In the first volume, on the night his life goes sideways, he tries and saves a man after his rig goes off the road and into water. The man he pulls from the water looks just like him. Having been raised in an orphanage this raises some questions. After an attempt on his life, he starts putting together the pieces. His life may have been different than Reacher’s but his determination when he is threatened is the same.

Wahlman has cleared his name, got his life back, and even managed to get a License to be a private investigator. When he doesn’t take a case he has regret and tries to make things right. It does not go easy or well.

Muck like his generic source material, trouble just seems to find Wahlman. And in this one he is in it again. Assaulting an entire security squad, tampering with evidence, and generally getting in the way. But all with a purpose. To find out what happens read this great story.

This is another excellent novella. That stays true to the original character and universe. It is a great read in a fun series. Even if this volume had not been set in the Reacher Universe I would have enjoyed it. The fact that it is only adds to the mystique that is Jack Reacher. End Games - Jude Hardin - The Jack Reacher Experiment Book 7

I want to state I did enjoy this book and look forward to the rest in the series and the other two Reacher Series Jude has penned. Second a few years ago I read my first Reacher novel. I had picked up one for my dad, and after giving the back a read, I grabbed the eBook for myself. In under a year I had read all the Reacher Novels in print and all the books in the Hunt for Jack Reacher by Diane Capri. Since then I have read 59 books in the Reacher universe and am expanding out to the three series by Jude Hardin now.

The description of this book and same as some of the others is:

“About The Jack Reacher Experiment series

Rock Wahlman: Forty-one years old, United States Navy Master at Arms, E-8, retired.

DOB 14 October 2057.

Grew up in an orphanage, recently discovered that he is the product of a human cloning experiment, an exact genetic duplicate of a former army officer named Jack Reacher.

Now someone wants all evidence of the experiment to be erased, which means that someone wants Wahlman to be erased.

He’s on the run, desperate to survive, desperate to learn the truth about why all this is happening…

Note: The use of the name Jack Reacher, along with the use of story situations and supporting characters from the Jack Reacher universe, authorized by Lee Child. While sometimes referenced in the context of the story, the Jack Reacher character remains offstage in Kill Shot: The Jack Reacher Experiment Book 4.”

This volume like some of the others begins with:

“Rock Wahlman: Forty-one years old, United States Navy Master at Arms, E-8, retired. DOB 14 October 2057. Grew up in an orphanage, recently discovered that he is the product of a human cloning experiment, an exact genetic duplicate of a former army officer named Jack Reacher. This story is listed as 106 pages, not the shortest in the series and not the longest; but around the average. It felt shorter though, this one has a lot of focus around a specific base called ‘The Box’, from the previous offering. I read this over a few mugs of coffee on a quiet day at home. It was finished far too soon, and really leaves you desperate for the next 2 stories in the series.

Wahlman is still working to find info he needs to clear his name, and get his life back. He now has plans and hopes for a life. But it is all going to hinge on a crazy risky plan. He wants a home a family, things he had never desired before. Both Wahlman and Kasey realize their feelings for each other are not going away. But before that can happen he needs evidence on the corrupt general that is trying to have him taken out and about the cloning projects that have done. His is not only running from a rogue element in the Military, and the New Orleans’s Police.

Muck like his generic source material, trouble just seems to find Wahlman. And in this one He is in it again. And it seems he is destined to die. This story jumps back and forth in time in the telling. This is the most intense instalment yet.

This is another great novella. That stays true to the original character and universe. It is a great read in a fun series. Even if this volume had not been set in the Reacher Universe I would have enjoyed it. The fact that it is only adds to the mystique that is Jack Reacher. This story continues a few months after the last. Wahlman now using aliases has become a drifter, moving from town to town. Never staying anywhere too long. Trying to pieced together the information about who in the military is trying to cover their tracks. He needs enough proof to be able to expose it, and get some sort of life back. He has begun reading up on Jack Reacher’s exploits because the files are declassified now. He is not quite living the Reacher lifestyle, he has a backpack, fake ID, but in this instalment he is travelling with Kasey and trying to find the info he needs to get his life back. But just like Reacher trouble just seems to find him.

Colonel Dorland has now lost a few assassins he has sent after Wahlman. And this one begins with him putting another price on Wahlman’s head. He hires a firm that apparently does clean up across the country. But Wahlman attracts some trouble from some knuckleheads and his actions lead to serious consequences. But sometimes when things do not go as expected things can take a turn for the better. And that just might happen in this case. But to find out you will need to read this instalment of the Reacher experiment!

This is another well written story. That stays true to the original character and universe. It is a fun read in a good series. Even if this volume had not been set in the Reacher Universe I would have enjoyed it. The fact that it is only adds to the mystique that is Jack Reacher. It was good read and leaves you desperate for the next instalment in this series. A thriller, a book I can easily recommend to fans of Reacher or anyone who love a good action thriller.

No Escape - Jude Hardin - The Jack Reacher Experiment Book 3

First I want to state I enjoyed this book and look forward to the rest in the series and the other two Reacher Series Jude has penned. Second a few years ago I read my first Reacher novel. I had picked up one for my dad, and after giving the back a read, I grabbed the eBook for myself. In under a year I had read all the Reacher Novels in print and all the books in the Hunt for Jack Reacher by Diane Capri. Since then I have read 58 books in the Reacher universe and am expanding out to the three series by Jude Hardin now.

The description of this book:

“About The Jack Reacher Experiment series

Rock Wahlman: Forty-one years old, United States Navy Master at Arms, E-8, retired.

DOB 14 October 2057.

Grew up in an orphanage, recently discovered that he is the product of a human cloning experiment, an exact genetic duplicate of a former army officer named Jack Reacher.

Now someone wants all evidence of the experiment to be erased, which means that someone wants Wahlman to be erased.

He’s on the run, desperate to survive, desperate to learn the truth about why all this is happening…

The use of story situations and supporting characters from the Jack Reacher universe authorized by Lee Child.

No Escape: The Jack Reacher Experiment Book 3 is 18,000 words, approximately 85 pages.”

Based on the page count this volume is more of a novella, the book in this series are available as 9 stand-alone stories or in 3 omnibus editions. I will continue to read and review the stand-alone editions because that is how I started the series. But; back to the story at hand. I read this volume in a single sitting on a cold Sunday in February, over a few mugs of tea.

As I have said before; even death can’t keep Reacher down, in a manner of speaking. Rock Wahlman is a clone of Reacher, but he was not the only one. In the first volume, on the night his life goes sideways, he tries to save a man after his rig goes off the road and into water. The man he pulls from the water looks just like him. Having been raised in an orphanage this raises some questions. After an attempt on his life, he starts putting together the pieces. His life may have been different than Reacher’s but his determination when he is threatened is the same.

This story continues a short while after the last volume. Wahlman now using aliases has become a drifter, moving from town to town; never staying anywhere too long. He is still trying to piece together the information about who in the military is trying to cover their tracks. He needs enough proof to be able to expose it, and get some sort of life back. He has begun reading up on Jack Reacher’s exploits because the files are declassified now. He is not quite living the Reacher lifestyle, he has a backpack, fake ID, but in this installment begins he is working doing manual labour building fences. But when he recognizes a man in a dinner he is off on the run again. He wants to re-establish contact with Kasey who he left behind in Barstow. But he has discovered a personal aversion to going backward, and he realizes the murder of Kasey’s ex might be tied to his own problems. To find out what happens read this installment in the series.

It is a well written story. That stays true to the original character and universe. It is a fun read in what is shaping up to be a good series. Even if this volume had not been set in the Reacher Universe I would have enjoyed it. The fact that it is only adds to the mystique that is Jack Reacher. It was good read and leaves you desperate for the next installment in this series. This marks book 3 of 9 in the shorter editions or the end of the first of three of the omnibus editions. It is a thriller, a book I can easily recommend to fans of Reacher or anyone who loves a good action thriller.

New Kid In Town - Andrew Child - A Jack Reacher Story

This is one of only a few short stories by Andrew Child featuring Jack Reacher. I read this story a few weeks ago in the anthology, Hotel California. A few years back he started co-writing the Reacher novels with his brother. An accomplished author in his own write under the name Andrew Grant, I have enjoyed following his contributions to the Reacher canon, and went back and read all of his previously published novels. I read my first Reacher story in 2019, I had picked up the most recent as a gift for my dad, this time I read the back and thought it looked interesting, and picked up the eBook for myself. I read about a book or published short story a week until I was caught up, thought I jumped around a lot, picking titles at random. I have since stayed up to date on the series. I have also read the Hunt for Reacher Series by Diane Capri and also the Jack Reacher Experiment book 1 by Jude Hardin. I even have a tag on my blog for all Reacher Stories no matter the author. I really enjoy the character, and have loved almost all of the books. I had picked up the Anthology this came from but have not got around to reading it yet. This is one I really wanted to read and was excited it was available as a standalone story. So I was pretty excited to give this a read.

The description of this offering in the Reacher series states:

“A thrilling new addition to the bestselling Jack Reacher series, by Andrew Child

Hitching a ride cross-country, Reacher manages to thwart an unsavory criminal hiding out in a sleepy backwater town in rural Texas …

This story originally appeared in Hotel An Anthology of New Mystery Short Stories edited by Don Bruns.”

This is an excellent story. Even rereading it after a few years, this time as a standalone it is great. I believe this was the first standalone work Andrew wrote with Reacher as a character. And it is masterfully written.

I really loved this story. I read it then went back and listened to it using adaptive technology. This is one of three Stories Child has written for the Music and Murder Mystery anthology series; the books and stories are:

Back in Black - You Shook Me All Night Long
Bat Out of Hell – Vat Out Of Hell

If you are a fan of Reacher this is a great shorter story in the collection of Reacher stories from the Child brothers. It is an excellent piece. Writing short form fiction if a very different skill than long form fiction, Andrew is proving himself an expert of each. And this is a wonderful read. So I encourage you to give it a try, either as this standalone edition or in the anthology edited by Don Burns.

Jack Rabbit - Diane Capri - Hunt for Reacher Book 24

This book is another great read in the Hunt for Jack Reacher Series. A few years ago I have read all of the Jack Reacher stories and all of the Hunt for Jack Reacher stories as well that were available at the time. Since then I have been reading them as they release. The Child brothers are releasing 1 book a year and Capri is releasing two. I am also now reading one of the other approved spin off series, the Reacher Experiment. This will be the 63rd Reacher story I have read. It is a good read. A couple of volumes ago felt like more of a stretch. This one really hit the mark.. The next in this series have already been announced.

First, I read the 29 Jack Reacher Novels and short stories by Lee Child, and now Lee and Andrew Child. And then I read all the books in this series. This is the eighteenth novel in the Hunt for Reacher Series, and the twenty-first story featuring Otto. The story starts with her chasing down an old lead in Key West, but soon finds some clues and sources that might have a lot more information, but will it be worth the risk.

Otto has Gaspar in the wings helping out as much as he can. He does not trust Finlay or Cooper but is helping Otto. The source book for this volume was Lee Child’s Night School. The description of this volume is:

“Trust no one. Find Reacher. Stay alive.

Blood sprays across an Arizona dive bar as FBI Special Agent Kim Otto's only lead is shot and killed before her eyes.

Kim’s mission to find Jack Reacher dropped her into a lethal conspiracy run by ex-soldiers, war profiteers, and government ghosts.

Following the trail of her murdered informant, Kim runs straight into the kill zone. The Lone Wolf team strikes hard, fast, and silent.

Operatives execute anyone who gets too close. Desert sand runs red as the mercenaries hunt across borders.

Disgraced NSA Deputy Director Marian Sinclair goes rogue with billions in black money. Now Kim is the target. Lone Wolf mercenaries, government assassins, and the legendary Frances Neagley are closing in.

Reacher's dangerously capable former sergeant doesn’t take orders from anyone.

Kim’s FBI badge is worthless against enemies willing to ignite nuclear Armageddon. Her only hope may be Reacher himself, a vengeful force of nature already moving through the shadows with his own deadly agenda.

The clock is ticking. The bodies are mounting. She’s out of time. She’s out of allies. And she’s not done yet.”

The cast of characters in this story is:

Carlos Gaspar
Reggie Smithers
Frances Neagley
Marian Sinclair
Larry Knox
Brad Hooper
Paul Bennett
Charles Cooper
Lamont Finlay
Jack Reacher

This story surprised me on a few occasions. It is a great story with an interesting plot, excellent characters. This story is slower than some others and has a significantly lower body count, but that is because of what is happening. There are numerous subplots in this volume. A former spy, Neagley, Otto, and an old case that seems to have loose ends, and Reacher hates loose ends and unfinished business. Reacher is working his way towards a bigger target and in this volume a lot of pieces fall into place. Both for us the reader and for Otto. This story is much more spy thriller and with the layered plots and subplots it really has a feel of the John Grisham novels.

It is another great story in an excellent series. It is longer than many of the offerings. These books always leave you desperate for the next instalment in the series. Capri has again done a wonderful job in leading us on the hunt for Jack Reacher. And with each offering we get to know Otto better. This story was very well done. I can easily recommend this book and series.

Note: there are two numbering systems for this series. Good Reads numbers the novels continuously with the shorter stories earlier in the series being x.5. Diane Just numbers them 1-??. So this book is number 24 for total stories and number 20 for novels.
