This is book seven in this great series. It was the last I read as each story stands strong on its own. And this is one of the best of the lot. Sierra Harimann has written a wonderful, dark, ghost story. But it will be great fun for younger readers.
Hannah is not enjoying life right now. She is moving in with her dad, step-mom and step-sister. And their house backs onto the famous graveyard from the poem The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. The day before she moves in, her best friend tells her the town legend about a ghost cat. And the day of the move, Hannah's own cat goes missing. And soon she is being woken up by the cat at night. She catches glimpses of it and follows it to the graveyard but cannot find it. As she doubts herself, she doesn't tell her best friend, and soon realizes her step-sister knows more than she is letting on. But can she get her to work together, can they solve the mystery or are they headed to be the next victims of the ghost cat? Read this awesome story to find out!
This series has been out for a few years now. It is a dark off-shoot of their popular Candy Apple Books. This series, Poison Apple Books, is amazing. The books explore such things as ghosts, vampires, haunting and other darker tales. Unlike most fluffy books for young girls, these tales have a little more grit but still have some humour and are really fun reads. Unfortunately this series has either been canceled or put on hiatus. There appears to be a new spin-off called Rotten Apples that started this year and it looks really interesting. But even it is not getting much push or press from Scholastic.

This series has been out for a few years now and this latest, the 8th book in the series, is the second to repeat an author. This series is a dark off-shoot of their popular Candy Apple Books. This series, Poison Apple Books, is amazing. The books explore such things as ghosts, vampires, haunting and other darker tales. Unlike most fluffy books for young girls, these tales have a little more grit but still have some humour and really fun reads.
This story continues shortly after This Totally Bites! Ashley Samantha Lambert is twelve years old, with blond hair and blue eyes, at her old school in New York she had been top of the social ladder, and then last fall she became a vampire. Now her family has moved to L.A. and things just seem to keep going downhill. Then she finds out she is living in a house famed for a vampire film, and the school play is the same story as that film: At First Bite. But not only are things rough for Ashley, she soon finds herself looking to uncover a dark one, a vampire that is attacking people. The Perfect life she pictured in L.A is not so perfect and life is even more complicated than she ever expected.
This book was another great read in a wonderful series. Give it a try.

This is the sixth installment in the new series, Poison Apple Books from Scholastic. This series keeps getting better and better with each book. And if it is anything little its little sister Candy Apple Books, we are in for many, many, more good reads. But back to the book at hand. Mimi McCoy who wrote the debut book in this series is back again and this time she has moved from a ghost story to a true haunting.
Anna has always wanted to be part of the 'in crowd' at school. She gets a note one day telling her to come to the old washroom after school, and that she has been chosen. So she does. To join the group she must go through an initiation, but when she does, something from her past seems to be unleashed. Soon she has a new best friend that she is spending all her time with. She drops her long-time best friend, and soon her life is spinning out of control. Can she figure out what is really going on? Can she get help, or will her life unravel completely?
This book is one of the best in the series - very compelling and an addictive read. I could not put it down and I read it in one sitting. Great book in a great series.

This is a fantastic series of books, geared for young women but with such great stories that any young reader would enjoy them. This is the fifth installment in the new series, Poison Apple Books from Scholastic, and it is not as dark as the previous books. It was a great read.
Clare Hutton has tackled the world of Shifters -- Werewolves, to be specific. Marisol and her mother are moving from Texas to Montana for most of her Grade 7 year. Once she arrives in this rural town she starts to experience strange events. Rumors about Werewolves and the town's history are woven into the fabric of the town and the family she and her mother are staying with. Marisol and her mother are staying with her mother's college roommate and best friend's family at their bed and breakfast. They have twins the same age as Marisol, Jack and Hailey. Soon though, Marisol is experiencing weird things, and she soon becomes suspicious that Hailey might be a Werewolf. But often we let our imaginations run away with us, especially if we are in a town with legends and history. The truth might be even more surprising than her wonderings.
This is another great book in a great series.

This fourth book in the new series, Poison Apple Books from Scholastic, is not as dark as the previous book, but it was a great read. These books are geared for readers who enjoyed the softer and gentler Candy Apple Books but are looking to read something with a little more edge. This book is, in part, the story of best friends, Abby and Lena, and they are thrift store junkies. Lena has been searching for a Polaroid Impulse, a treasure she had been looking for because her cousin gave her a whole case of film for it. But shortly after getting it, strange things start happening. Things start showing up in the pictures that are not really there. First a water tower and then a boy, and with each succeeding picture the boy is clearer. But Lena is being haunted and haunted through her new prized camera. She needs to find out what the boy wants or needs because her life is starting to fall apart. Can she figure out the hints in the pictures and solve the mystery?
This story was really fun to read. The story told from a photographer's perspective, with how to frame photos and compositions was an interesting twist. It is another good book in a great series.

This third book in the new series, Poison Apple Books from Scholastic, is darker and a little more sinister than the first two offerings. These books are geared for readers who enjoyed the softer and gentler Candy Apple Books but are looking to read something with a little more edge. They are not as dark as what their older siblings or parents might be reading. Brandi Dougherty winds a wonderful tale of friendship and mayhem as Young Zoe is cursed by a fortune teller at a carnival and her whole life starts turning upside-down.
Zoe goes to the fair with her friends as a group one evening. Everything seems to be going perfectly; the boy she likes has asked for her number and won her a giant bear. But while leaving the fair they notice a fortune teller and Mia and Zoe have their fortunes told. Mia's is nice and encouraging but Zoe's is dark and scary. But that just seems to be the beginning of her problems. Soon she is accident prone, her cell phone and computer both seem possessed and things keep getting worse. She soon realizes she is under a curse, and she and Mia must find a way to break the curse.
This story is very engaging - almost addictive. The reader finds himself wondering what can go wrong next, and can Zoe and Mia find a way not only to lift the curse but to make things right for those affected by the blowback from the curse. It is well written, and the characters so well written, we can only hope to encounter Mia and Zoe again in a future book in the series.

She is not quite what you expect from a middle grade student. Her mother would prefer if she wore pastels and acted a little more girly, but what can you do with a stubborn girl? Then her great aunt Margo arrives from Transylvania - tall, dark, ageless and cold to the touch. Emma discovers her family comes from Transylvania, and her great aunt looks ageless. She also looks just like Emma-Rose with dark hair, blue eyes and sharp incisors. Scholastic goes Goth, or at least dark and scary. This new series by Scholastic Press has some great potential - it looks like a dark off-shoot of their popular Candy Apple Books. This new series from Poison Apple Books starts with 2 out this spring, one in August and another in the fall and it looks amazing. I have read advance copies of the first two and they were great.
Casey Slater had her summer all planned out. She and her best friend knew what they would be doing all summer long and they would be doing it together. Then a few weeks before the end of school her parents tell her they have a surprise. Her parents bought a house in the middle of nowhere in New Hampshire, just outside Stillness. Her parents plan to restore this old creaky and creepy house. Everyone in town believes the house is haunted and soon so does Casey. She finds the diary from a girl who lived there 70 years earlier, Millicent Amelia Hughes, and while reading the journal, finds out Millicent's story and her own apprehension of being haunted are eerily similar. China cabinets fall over, vases explode, and all the electrical devices go on before the house has power. These and other events lead Casey to believe the house is haunted, and that maybe Millicent is out to get her. But things are not always as they appear. To quote the back of the book: "Casey thought she'd be dying of boredom, but now she's scared to death!"
