As of the reading of this book over the last few years I have read over 400 volumes from the Catholic Truth Society. I stumbled upon them while doing research on an author, and have been hooked ever since. This is the thirteenth in the CTS Children’s Book Series that I have read. It is the eighth and I believe final by Levivier, from the CTS, that I have read. Overall I have not read many of the CTS Children's Books but I have loved those I have and I will continue to track down more.

God is spirit.

John 4:24

God, our Father in Heaven, we all know who He is. We pray to Him, saying: ''Our Father, who art in Heaven ... '' Jesus, the Son of God, we know Him well too. we know His life and receive Him in the Eucharist. But who is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is the love of the Father and the Son. He is God, truly God.

To believe in God is to believe in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

So there are three distinct persons in God: the Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God. This is what we call the Holy Trinity: one God in three persons.

The Holy Spirit makes us know Jesus and makes us hear the word of the Father. He prepares our hearts to welcome and love them.

Holy Spirit, teach me

to know You, welcome You,

love You, speak to You and pray to You.

Holy Spirit, give me a heart full of love

for God, for my family, for my friends

and for all those whom I find it difficult

to really love.”

Often, we think that saints are not normal people. But they really are! They have simply let themselves be guided by the Holy Spirit. They have let Him act in them.

They are all very different from each other: there are men and women, young and old, funny and serious ones, gentle, angry, calm, lively ones and even jokers. All, however, had something in common. Do you know what?

They prayed a lot. This is why the Holy Spirit acted in them, transformed them, guided them and gave them some of His holiness.

The surest way to be holy is to follow the Holy Spirit!

My vocation is to be holy. When I pray, the Holy Spirit sanctifies me.

Breathe in me, 0 Holy Spirit,

that I might think in a holy way.

Push me, 0 Holy Spirit,

that I might behave in a holy way.

Seduce me, 0 Holy Spirit,

that I might love in a holy way.

Strengthen me, 0 Holy Spirit,

that I might watch in a holy way.

Keep me, 0 Holy Spirit,

that I might never betray what is holy.

This is an excellent little volume. It was great to read and pray through, I even added one of the prayers to my daily prayer list. Then we passed it along to our kids former Catholic Grade School. The Librarian has loved many of the CTS books we have donated over the years. I hope the sample chapters give you a feel for this volume. This is another excellent volume from the Catholic Truth Society. I am very thankful I picked it up and know it is one I will use often. A great resource I can easily recommend for church, home, or school library. And now having read all the books by Juliette Levivier from the CTS I can easily recommend all of them.

I stumbled upon them while doing research on an author, and have been hooked ever since. This is the twelfth in the CTS Children’s Book Series that I have read. It is the sixth by Levivier that I have read. Overall I have not read many of the CTS Children's Books but I have loved those I have and I will continue to track down more.

The donkey that carried Mary from Nazareth to Bethlehem was lying on the straw. It was happy to be resting. It had traveled a long way. It was hot and thirsty. It had carried a heavy load but had walked on bravely. Joseph's Kind voice and Mary's gentle touch had helped it on its way.

Sometimes people say donkeys are stubborn or stupid. It's true that this donkey didn’t understand much, but it was gentle and brave, and was happy to serve.

Sometimes I'm asked to do difficult things too, but I can try my best to help.

Lord, there’s a place in your Church

for everyone. Everyone can be a servant.

Everyone has gifts he can bring.

Everyone is important.

‘Teach me not to look down on anyone

but to recognize each person’s worth.

Amen.”

“Joseph

When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the

angel of the Lord commanded him.

Matthew 1:24

Standing near Mary, Joseph prays and keeps watch. He doesn't speak much. Like all the fathers of the world who are represented by him, he watches over the child. Joseph leans on God and trustingly obeys him.

I don't always like to obey! Obeying God means letting yourself be loved and responding to that love. It means accepting his plan of love for you. We get close to God by obeying his Word and his Church. Truly, obedience is wonderful!

Lord,

I too want to come to you in silence

and offer you my life.

I want to pray in silence,

without speaking,

just contemplating you,

letting myself be guided,

letting myself be loved,

so that every day of my life

I may do what you ask of me.

Amen.”

“The leper

A leper met Jesus on the road and fell to his Knees in front of him. He begged Jesus to heal him because he trusted in him.

Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him. “Of course I want to heal you!” he said. And the leprosy left him at once and he was cured.

Mark 1:41-42

Leprosy is a terrible disease... It disfigures people who have it. Everyone believed it was very easy to catch it so they all ran away. But Jesus was not afraid. He touched the leper, and his touch, so full of compassion, cured him.

There are some people I treat like lepers, and who I think are not worth talking to. Is this how Jesus thinks of them? Of course not! So why don't I change my way of looking at them, and try to see them as Jesus does?

Lord Jesus, you did not shrink

away from the leper.

You went to him and you touched him.

You do the same to everyone.

Each one of us is beautiful in your eyes,

each one has a place in your heart.

No one is outside your love.”

And another is: 

“Simon of Cyrene

Jesus was arrested, condemned and beaten. Here he is carrying his cross up to the place where they will crucify him. He was so exhausted that the Roman soldiers pulled a man out of the crowd to help him carry his heavy cross.

They seized on a man, Simon from Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and made him shoulder the cross, and carry it behind Jesus.

Luke 23:26

Simon didn’t choose to help Jesus, he was forced to. He had been working all day. He was tired and he wanted to rest. But he put all his heart and his compassion into it, and this was a great comfort to Jesus. He helped as much with his friendship as with the strength of his arms.

Sometimes when I have to do my homework, tidy up my things, or help around the house - all these things can seem too much for me. Just like Simon, I can choose to put all my heart and all my love into it.

You were not helping a criminal, Simon,

you were helping the Son of God !

When I love someone, I am loving Jesus.

When I help someone, I am helping Jesus.

Teach me to serve others with a smile,

to help those who are sad and to

recognise Jesus in all those who suffer.”

This is the fifth of the seven volumes form the CTS by Levivier and Gravier that I have read. They are wonderful books for home, school, or church libraries. The Illustrations are bright and fun. Some full pages illustrations other small drawings around the edge of the pages. The text is clear and wonderfully written. Kids will understand it easily. And parents and even grandparents will love the simple faith and wonderful prayers on ever facing page. It is an excellent volume explaining what happens at mass and our role in being present and engaged.

This is a wonderful volume on praying the Rosary no matter your age. The illustrations are excellent. It is clear and concise, and I love the extra prayer at the end of each set of mysteries. A Sample text for a mystery is:

it on Jesus’ head.

Like Jesus, I can reply

to evil with good

and to mockery

with forgiveness.

Sweet Virgin Mary, teach me not to

take revenge, to undo the bad things

It is the third by Levivier I have read. It is one of only a few books in the CTS Children's Books I have read, but I will continue to track down more.

"Everyone, out!" The Roman centurion burst into a small house where forty-nine Christians were celebrating the Eucharist He arrested them all and led them to the forum to have them tortured.

Despite their sufferings, they continued to proclaim their faith in Jesus Christ Young Felix, his friend Saturninus and even little Hilarion, all sang with Tazclita: "Lord Jesus, we are your servants. You are our hope, you are the hope of all Christians. Glory to you, Most Holy God!"

You don't need to be very big, or wise, to love Jesus or to give your life for him. For me, giving my life can simply mean serving those around me.

God Most Great, you are our life.

God Most High, you are our strength.

God Most Holy, you are our joy.

God Almighty, you are our hope.

May your name be glorified everywhere!
