I absolutely loved the beginning of the 39 clues books. I read 18 volumes across two of the series between 2009 and 2012. But then life got very busy with a change in roles at work and 3 young children at home; and they sort of fell off my radar. But I have been on a mission to read and review the complete works of Gordon Korman. I picked this one up when I had a little under 20 to go. It reminded me how good this series is, and I have added the remaining books to me ‘to be read’ pile (for after I have completed Korman’s canon). But back to the volume at hand.
The description of this volume states:

This story starts with several abductions. They are all Cahills or as close as family. Dan and Amy escape because they have been preparing for this since the end of the hunt for the 39 Clues. This time all the families are working together and not against each other. And though some members of some clans within the family are not helping overall the Cahill’s have come together and now know they are facing a new and powerful enemy. It will take the cunning, skill, resources, and determination of all the Cahills to pull of the heists they are being blackmailed into performing. All to save their family. But being Cahills they are not just doing what they are told, they are trying to get ahead of the Vespers and figure out their end game so they can thwart it.
This was the first novel I have read in this series in 13 years. Reading this volume after a 13 year break was like a visit with old friends. The plot is breakneck, the pace almost non-stop action. And the characters are masterfully written. I can easily recommend the book and series great fun for the young and young at heart!
