Thanks for the Mummyries - Karina Fabian - DragonEye PI Book 2.5

I had already read this story in the anthology Holy Flying Pumpkins! From Legend Fiction. But as soon as it was released as a standalone story I picked it up and gave it a read again.

It is a really fun story in an excellent series. I first read this story about a year ago, and this second time it is just as a good. In some ways it is a little more powerful reading it as a standalone story, instead of as one in a collection.

I believe that with each new book or published short story I read from Karina Fabian’s masterful pen I am more and more impressed with her writing. To date, I have loved all the books and all the series I have read by her. And this marks the 56th time I have read a book or published story by her. Not counting those in anthologies. This version of this story is an excellent offering.

I have been reading stories from Karina Fabian since 2008. But in the last four years I have read or reread over 40 books and stories published by her. In that time I have read stories across most of her series, some a few times. I usually read her books and then often listen to them a second time using adaptive technology.

But back to this story. The description of this book is:

“Vern gets a job at the museum! Okay, so they ask him to “go” in the dumpster outside, but the assignment—guarding an exhibit of Fairie and Mundane Egyptain artifacts—offers a walk down memory lane. Plus, his old friend Linda is assisting with the exhibit.

But when an actor hired to play the Harbinger of Doom goes nuts and destroys the exhibit, releasing ancient magic, a night of nostalgia becomes Night at the Museum. It’s Vern vs. The Mummy—and the scarab beetles, and Hatsup the Cat in this hilarious DragonEye short story.”

Vern is playing a role as an extra at an Egyptian exhibit, with artefacts from ancient Egypt on both Earth and Faerie. From his first tour he has concerns, and not just because he has to go outside to relieve himself. And on such an excursion things do indeed start to go sideways. And Vern does save the day but also causes a lot of damage. Oh vey!

This story is another very entertaining read, in a great series. It is a wonderful offering from Fabian’s pen. Even if you have not read any of the other DragonEye PI stories I can easily recommend this story to you. I have said it before, and I say it again in many ways it reads like a catholic version of Robert Apsrin’s MYTH series and his Phule’s Company and also the works of Tom Holt, especially Holt’s Nothing but Blue Skies. Give this book or the series a try; I am certain you will be entertained. A fantastic read in a great series that I can easily recommend.
