I am always excited when I see a new title is releasing in the Vision Book Series, from Ignatius Press. I have read a number of the Vision Book editions and a few of the original editions. I was very excited to read this volume.
I love the Vision Books for Young Readers, and this is another excellent offering in this great series.
The description of this book states:
“Born in Connecticut in 1852, Michael McGivney grew up with a dream that would prove difficult to achieve. He wanted to become a priest and devote his life to God by serving others.
After his ordination, Father McGivney’s influence went far beyond his priestly ministry and parochial boundaries. His friends were in high society and on death row. A man of many talents, he directed plays and organized church fairs. Father McGivney shared his love of God by serving those around him. His concern for his flock would nurture a new dream—to serve even more people by helping them to help themselves.
In 1882, Father McGivney gathered a group of men who shared his vision, and the Knights of Columbus was born. Despite opposition and challenges, Father McGivney’s new dream would succeed far beyond his expectations.
Beloved in his time for who he was, Father Michael McGivney will be forever remembered for what he accomplished. Today the Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic fraternal organization in the world. Meet the man who started it all and still inspires people to serve God by serving others.”

Author’s Note
Tennant states in the author’s note:
“Bringing the story of Michael McGivney to life has been an honor. Very few of Michael’s letters still exist, but parish records and period newspaper articles offer information about his life as a priest and the times in which he lived. In writing this book, I tried to stay true to the historical information we have about Michael. Most of the events in this book really happened, although I needed to elaborate on some of them. Little items, such as the prizes Michael won, are real.”
This was a wonderful read. It was very inspiring to read this story. What he went through in his own life and the path he followed to ordination, his care of all around him. His ministry to a criminal on death row. The productions he put on and eventually crafted. And then the Knights of Columbus.
I love this book and series! My two youngest both teenagers enjoy the Vision Books, I am in my fifties and I love them, those Ignatius brought back in print, the new expansions of the series, and the originals I can lay my hands on that Ignatius has not licensed. This latest release in the series is an excellent volume. This is an amazing book in a wonderful series. They would be great additions to any home, school, or church library. An excellent book I can easily recommend this volume on Father McGivney!
