Lab Gremlins - Cedar Sanderson

A terribly interesting story. This was the third stand alone work of Sanderson’s that I have read. Like her other shorter works it ever leave you wanting more. My introduction to the works of Cedar in Cracked: An Anthology of Eggsellent Chicken Stories, and after reading her piece there knew I had to track down and read something else from her pen. The first stand alone piece was The Groundskeeper: Raking Up the Dead, and the second was The Violet Mouse, both were excellent. There are many of her books that grab my attention just by the titles. And this was one of them. I have been buying them without even reading the descriptions. I highly recommend this one, but warn you like everything else I have read by Sanderson it will leaving you wanting more. More stories that continue from this one, and just more stories from her pen.

This one was an excellent read. A bit of a Men in Black, a bit of Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon. The description of the volume is:

“All Steven wanted was a lab job to get experience. His boss acted like a mad scientist, but that wasn't the problem. No, the problem started with disappearances around the lab, and then it really escalated. Steven finds himself scrambling to cope with gremlins, chemical spills, and much worse things when the government agents show up... because they are recruiting and don't take no for an answer!”

The story starts off slowly and normally enough. Guy just wants a job. Needs experience on his resume. Not a great job and a strange boss. But hey it is work. Then things start getting weirder and weirder. It all starts when his boss indicates the lab has gremlins. And that they need to set a trap for them. Next things he knows he is in a secret facility and helping find a way to …

Well to find out what he helps out with, you will need to read this great story. The writing is tight. The characters are fun. And the story is very entertaining. Another great short read from Sanderson’s pen.
