This was the December book for the book club at work. I read it over a few days before the meeting. I was one of the few who had finished it. For a couple it ended up on the NF ‘Did Not Finish’ pile. And to be honest if it was not for the book club that would have been the case for me as well.
Now I need to give some background for the reason for that. I have been reading books like this for over 30 years. I have a dual form of dyslexia and in order to succeed academically and professionally I have had to develop a lot of skills; productivity skills, time management skills, and organizational skills. Books like Julie Morgenstern’s ‘Time Management from the Inside Out’ and ‘Organization From The Inside Out’. Others such as ‘How to get Better Grades and Have More Fun’ by Steve Douglas & Al Jansen. And almost anything from Michal Stawicki; such as ‘Trickle Down Mindset: The Missing Element In Your Personal Success’, ‘The Remarkable Power of Consistency’, and ‘Simplify Your Pursuit of Success’. Plus classics in the genre by John Maxwell, Stephen Covey, Robin Sharma, Dan Millman, Patrick Lencioni and Matthew Kelly.
That being said; I did find the volume useful and could easily recommend it to someone just starting on that journey. I took 1 of the exercises from this volume and have incorporated it. It was one I used years ago, but moved away from as I transitioned to being digital. And I can understand if I was approaching this as a newcomer this book would be revolutionary. In the book club a few of us felt that way.
Ali writes in an engaging manner. He shares a lot of personal example both of success and failures. It is an easy volume to engage with. As someone who reads a lot in this space it is a solid 4/5 stars.
