Saint Nicholas Day 2017

Saint Nicholas Day 2017

It is interesting reading and reflecting on saint Nicholas today. There are so many different traditions and observances around this man. Depending on the tradition and even country this celebration varies from December 3rd to December 19th. For me it will always remind me of a close friend. he was of German heritage and loved celebrating this day. He nearly always threw a Saint Nicholas Day party, with traditional German treats and food. He had a wonderful collection of more traditional saint Nicholas's, not the Read and white version introduced by Coke Cola marketing in the 1930's. Representations of Saint Nicholas come in many colors and sizes. I myself prefer the more woodland natural tones for this type of iconography.

This year I finished reading the Sword and Serpent Trilogy by Dr. Taylor R. Marshall. In his books a version of Nicholas of Myrna appears as one of the best characters. I highly recommend the book and the series.

If you are looking for a great read for the holiday season or to give as a gift check out this series.
